Campeche

Forts and walled cities and cannons and swords and swashbucklers and pirate ships and treasures…

And romantic it was!

Campeche is a city of a quarter million people on the Southwest coast of the Yucatan. Founded in 1540, it was later walled in to protect it from pirates. Much of the central portion still has the wall in place. We spent four days there and loved it. The city is beautiful, the food was wonderful, and our lodging was located perfectly.
