San Diego — Bikes, Whales, and an Unexpected Air Show
We didn’t plan on an air show.
But there it was.
On the drive from Arizona toward San Diego, we stopped at a rest area near an Air Force base. Jets screaming overhead. Formations. Precision. Just… happening. Right above a highway rest stop.
Amazing. We stood there longer than we planned.
Five Blocks from the Beach
We stayed in a studio five blocks from the beach. Close enough to walk.
Plus, they had bikes for us!
Saturday afternoon we walked down. Stopped for ice cream. Picked up groceries on the way back — everything within walking distance. We love that!
We also found lunch at Pacific Barn & Grill. And spotted something on the wall.
Iowa Hawkeyes banner. Denver Broncos banner. Right next to each other!

Our teams. In San Diego. Of all places.
Two of our teams. In San Diego. We enjoyed fish tacos.
A Rest Day
Sunday was quieter. A sore throat had caught up with us, so we took it easy.
We walked to a couple of bike shops — not to rent, just to find a map of the bike paths around San Diego. Found one on the third try.
Mission Bay
Monday we biked.

Bikes and a full day ahead.
Four hours around Mission Bay. Lunch on the boardwalk. Sun on the water.
And then — whales. Right out in the ocean. We stopped and just watched.
Bikes. Whales. Boardwalk lunch.
San Diego delivered.
Next up: Ashland — Our Home Base. Stay tuned!
