Snow, a Cabin, and a Van
We bought a camper van.
But let’s back up.
Through the Snow
We left Tulsa and headed southwest toward Arizona. Arizona surprised us.

Snow-dusted mountains.

Driving through the Tonto National Forest.
The road turned white. The sky disappeared. Snow in late February in Arizona! Which is not that unusual, considering the area of Arizona we were driving through. The Tonto National Forest.
We kept going.
Kohl’s Ranch Lodge
That night we stayed at Kohl’s Ranch Lodge, near Payson, Arizona. In a cabin along Tonto Creek, tucked into the pines.

Our cabin at Kohl's Ranch Lodge. Deck chairs, pines, and a fireplace waiting inside.

Tonto Creek running just below the cabin.

The creek up close.
The cabin had a fireplace. After the drive we’d just had, that was exactly right.

The fireplace that evening. Very comfy.
Three Inches of Snow
We woke up the next morning to 3 inches of snow on the ground.
It was beautiful.

Clearing snow off the car.
We Bought a Van
We drove down from Payson to Peoria (right next to Phoenix), to look at a Class B camper van.
We thought we were just looking. We had been watching (via FB Marketplace) for a camper van for months. This was a ‘just looking’ side trip since we were going right through Phoneix. Besides, we had a trip to finish.
It had only 60,000 miles. Well kept. Very comfortable. We drove it, liked everything about it, and instead of just looking, we bought it. The owner will hold it for us until we can come back in March — once we have our Oregon driver’s license sorted.

Heading West
From Peoria we made our way to Gila Bend for the night, then headed west toward San Diego.

Saguaro cactus covering the hillsides.
Saguaro cactus as far as you could see.
Snowstorm to saguaros. One day.
Next up: San Diego. Stay tuned!
